As the colder, wetter weather comes in, it’s time for our central Bristol hairdressers to share their best advice on dealing with Winter hair problems.
Our central Bristol hairdressers can help you with common Winter hair problems in 2025
One of the most-often seen issues at this time of year is dry and brittle hair. As moisture in the air increases in Winter months, dry and brittle hair requires extra attention.
Our central Bristol hairdressers recommend using a specialist shampoo and conditioner combo for dry hair, such as L’Oreal Serie Expert Nutrifyer.
By having a high-moisture content shampoo and conditioning treatment once a week, either in-salon or at home, your hair will be less dry and brittle.
An excellent at-home treatment to try is L’Oreal Source Sesame Oil Nourishing Balm – ask in-salon for further information on these products.
To reduce hair dehydration, it’s also advisable to use heat-protection products, as well as a minimal use of heated stylers during the Winter.
Another common Winter hair problem we see at our central Bristol salon is flyaway hair, due to static in the air from lower temperatures.
To avoid this, we recommend not using plastic combs while hair is dry, and only use frizz-free hair products during Winter months.
Our favourite hair products to reduce flyaway hair are Moroccan Oil Frizz Control and L’Oreal Absolut Repair Lipidium Blow Dry Cream. Using a light conditioning oil for the mid-lengths and tips will also combat static issues.
Dry scalp can be a Winter problem, as skin becomes drier in the cold weather.
A dry scalp can be itchy, flaky, and unhealthy for the hair. A soothing dermo-protector shampoo is the first line of defence, with our recommendation being L’Oreal Serie Expert Sensi Balance Shampoo.
Hot oil treatments can also be effective for dry scalps, as they lift and dissolve dead skin, improving the condition of the scalp, skin, and hair as a result.
A fourth Winter hair problem our central Bristol hairdressers come across is a rise in split ends. The harsh weather at this time of year can cause real damage to hair integrity and strength, especially with unmanaged hair.
We recommend getting hair trimmed regularly, including dealing with ends and to prevent an increase in split ends. Maintenance cuts every 6-8 weeks.
Another common Winter hair issue our central Bristol hairdressers are seeing is the use of hats to keep the head warm – but whilst hair is still damp.
Hat Hair, as we call it, can cause damage to the roots if hair isn’t completely dried before going out and then putting on a Winter hat.
Make sure that the hair is completely cooled down after using any heated tools, and use a leave-in conditioner to lock in moisture. Once the hat has been removed, also flip hair upside down to revive it.
